The guys at EUQL recently did an interview with 2008′s Quakecon and ESWC Quake (Live) champion Alexey “Cypher” Yanushevksy.
Everybody was allowed to send in questions for the young Belarusian which resulted in some mildly interesting conversation:
How do you turn the tides of a game when the opponent has item-locked you? (Cabelekse)
That depends a bit on my opponent. When you play someone like Av3k, it is very different to get control back then when you play an aimbased player. So either you wait till your opponent makes a timing mistake or like in Av3ks case you need to show extreme patience cause he doesnt make a lot of timing mistakes. You need to get well positioned so you can draw first blood if it comes to a fight or gradually wear his health/armor down.

Well, it seems Quake Live is more popular than idsoftware expected it to be, as Todd Hollenshead was so impressed by the sheer number of signups for the closed and open beta of Quake Live that they are even thinking about porting other games like QuakeWars and ET to the browser platform.
Todd Hollenshead
The participation in the open beta is 50 percent higher than what we expected. The beta was perhaps too successful, at least in the raw numbers, with a massive queue forming when the beta kicked off.
Hollenshead also confirmed once more that upcoming Chrome, Linux and Mac support is a high priority, right after eliminating the last couple of bugs. Read more at IGN
Good news for the community as this will certainly lead to more players!
It’s raining duel tournaments these days! Because of the lack of private servers – be patient, they will come sooner or later – the only game type that is actually doable in terms of running and managing, is duel.
I read on IRC about it this morning and it was posted yesterday on the Quake Live forums, and seeing that in 1 day it has already a decent amount of signups, it’s worth mentioning! Continue reading…

Yesterday was the final day for the Complexity Gaming Quake Live Movie contest entries to be submitted.
Each submission has been reviewed by the Complexity crew and 6 finalists have been selected. Head over to the official voting polls to vote for your favorite.
So far this video made by Torzelan seems to impress the most:
The polls close March 28th, which is in 7 days, so vote now to make your opinion count!
Since the previous poll about two weeks ago, it has been established that more than 90% of the people passing by this website think Quake Live is worth a score of at least 3 out of 5.
Today we’re curious to know what type of maps all of you would prefer to see more of in Quake Live.
It was previously said that the creation of new maps in Quake Live would depend on the success of the game.
Seeing how Quake Live received more attention than id software had ever dared to hope upon launch, I can only guess they are taking this as a sign to start mapping even more!
Just to make it even more interesting I also added the qzTRAINING option, even though there’s currently only one map like that and it’s not at all sure id software will ever make more of these.
This poll allows you to select max 2 options and will probably run about 2 weeks.
