“How about a nice cup of CTF?” must have been what the Clanbase Quake Live admins were thinking. Because while their featured 4on4 TDM cup is still going on, they just announced to start with a CTF Summer Cup.

10 Days of signups is all you get, so rush rush to be in it, as there will be no pools but straight playoffs! It will also be a 4on4 cup so some CTF 5on5 tactics will need some tweaks. Pro settings lure around the corner too, but for now it will be the regular 8-cap vs 20-time limit system.

Some important dates for this cup:

  • Signups open – 20th of June
  • Signups close – 29th of June
  • First matchweek – 12th of July

Map 6 of 6: Quarantaine

20 Jun 2009 by Lashknife in quake live news with 0 comments

Concluding this short series of 6 new and/or returning maps, is a fresh CA map called Quarantaine.

6-maps-6-weeks-map6

“Quarantaine” is a medium sized Clan Arena map suitable for 2 to 10 players, but there have been made special tweaks when playing this map as Team Death Match as well, so it will be interesting to see how this turns out for both gametypes.

Polish Weekend Cup Series

18 Jun 2009 by Lashknife in community, competition, tournaments with 0 comments

Since some time, ESL features a Weekend Cup Series for Polish players only, which is played during the weekend (yah-hah!), and features Best-of-3 games in a Double-Elimination bracket system.

This past weekend the 4th edition was concluded which featured a DE16 format, unlike the first 3 editions that were SE32 (Single Elimination).

During this 4th weekend, some unexpected players rose to the occasion to run away with the gold silver bronze and whatever metal that is left behind for 4th place. Continue reading…

Map 5 of 6: Courtyard Conundrum

13 Jun 2009 by searrard in news, quake live news with 4 comments

Map 5 of the 6 new maps in 6 weeks is another old map. Unless you played Quake 3 OSP\CPMA CTF Pick-ups or Leagues then you may not recognise Courtyard Conundrum AKA q3w2 except in a frag video. Courtyard Conundrum was a staple of the CTF leagues and pick-ups, loved by some and sometimes overlooked by others. The map is fairly balanced and I can see there are changes* being made from the screenshots that Id have released. This is a map you’ll have to know.

Map 5 of 6: Courtyard Conundrum

From Quake Live Map Preview
For week 5 we bring you “Courtyard Conundrum,” another classic CTF arena from the earliest days of Threewave and our friends “Casey” and “Zoid.” Like Bloodlust, Courtyard Conundrum was originally created and released in 2000 as part of a 3-pack of CTF maps for the original QUAKE III Arena. This arena has been a long-time favorite, and is a welcomed addition to the QUAKE LIVE CTF arena rotation. Courtyard Conundrum provides a nice combination of larger open bases and tighter connecting areas, and is most often played with 8-12 players.

We’ve almost reached the end of this 6 map run, but stay tuned next week as we debut a totally new map for Clan Arena. !

Pro settings see the daylight!

It had to happen sooner or later: pro settings. Many screamed for it, many don’t care at all, and perhaps some haven’t figured out yet what this “pro” thing is that is labeled on several TDM servers nowadays.

In a first step towards competition settings – in case you forgot, they are working on it ;) – a small difference has been made public: a change in weapon spawn times on TDM servers. Players new to Quake Live know only the regular spawn settings, but Quake 3 spawn times originally were 30 seconds for a weapon. This lead to heavy competitive behavior and map control was crucial as without a gun, making a difference suddenly became very hard.

Quake Live introduced a shorter weapon spawn, which gave freshly spawned players a breath of air, but annoyed the opponent also because that same map control lost a significant part of it’s importance. But now the longer weapon spawn time is back in town, and players have to review their gamestyle. However, Quake Live features another impact on teamplay that Quake 3 didn’t have: drop weapon.
