Map 5 of 6: Courtyard Conundrum
Map 5 of the 6 new maps in 6 weeks is another old map. Unless you played Quake 3 OSP\CPMA CTF Pick-ups or Leagues then you may not recognise Courtyard Conundrum AKA q3w2 except in a frag video. Courtyard Conundrum was a staple of the CTF leagues and pick-ups, loved by some and sometimes overlooked by others. The map is fairly balanced and I can see there are changes* being made from the screenshots that Id have released. This is a map you'll have to know.

For week 5 we bring you "Courtyard Conundrum," another classic CTF arena from the earliest days of Threewave and our friends "Casey" and "Zoid." Like Bloodlust, Courtyard Conundrum was originally created and released in 2000 as part of a 3-pack of CTF maps for the original QUAKE III Arena. This arena has been a long-time favorite, and is a welcomed addition to the QUAKE LIVE CTF arena rotation. Courtyard Conundrum provides a nice combination of larger open bases and tighter connecting areas, and is most often played with 8-12 players. We've almost reached the end of this 6 map run, but stay tuned next week as we debut a totally new map for Clan Arena. !
Map 4 of 6: Blood Run
We kept seeing Quake Live forum threads begging for this Map made years ago by Sten "Ztn" Uusvali, yet until now the developers kept their cards close to their chests about bringing back old user made Maps. For many years Ztn's Blood Run was a Quake 3 Tournament favorite and yet it seemed like it was going to be left at that until now. I'm personally delighted to say that this week's new Quake Live map is Blood Run. Bravo!
From Quake Live Map Preview
In 1997 Sten "ztn" Uusvali created the original version of Blood Run for QUAKE 1 as a homage to E1M5 Gloom Keep, and it became an instant hit. Following the release of QUAKE III Arena, ztn re-built Blood Run from scratch and released it in 2000 to an even greater reception. Over the past 9 years, Blood Run has become a staple of Duel competition, and a favorite of players around the world. Countless professional tournaments have been decided, and hundreds of thousands of dollars earned over the years within the halls of Blood Run.Everyone on the QUAKE LIVE team would really like to thank Sten for allowing us the privilege of bringing Blood Run to QUAKE LIVE, and we know he was excited to once again bring many hours of fun to this community. Enjoy!

Proximity Mines – Without the Spam
One of the new Weapons to QuakeLive is the Proximity Mine Launcher and strangely enough it has not had a warm welcome. The Prox Mine is not a popular weapon for many Quake players. As often as I see players on my own team throwing their mines about in a vain effort to block a passage or hallway, I rarely see people using Prox Mines as an offensive weapon. I have put together a video of very useful tactics to try and use with the Prox Mine. I'll also talk about the CTF tactics concerning the mindset of players and why the Prox Mine plays such a big part of that.
What FOV do you use in Quake Live? [POLL]
One of the classic discussions in just about any First Person Shooter revolves around the FOV people use.
The Field of View (or FOV) is a setting you can change which determines how much of the map is visible to you. To change your FOV in Quake Live just open the console and type cg_fov 100, or any other value between 75 (close-up) and 130 (great map overview). The standard FOV in Quake Live is 90.
Some say a low FOV will improve your accuracy. Others say a high FOV allows more flexibility and improves your movement. There are definitely several arguments possible for both low and high FOVs:
