Map 3 of 6: Bloodlust

Posted by Lashknife

Yeah baby yeah! Oldschool Quake players will definitely remember this map from Quake 3 and even Quake 2 and being made for idsoftware by Threewave - one of the best mapping teams for Quake 3 ever - idsoftware now reformed it into a Quake Live release: Bloodlust aka qzctf9.

"Bloodlust" is a regular ctf map without the runes and is suitable for 8 to 10 players.

By now everybody already heard of it and probably might have played a few games on it already, but I especially waited 2 days after release to gather some first impressions.

Quake-Live.tv Official opening!

Posted by Lashknife

Quake-Live.tvIf a game that qualifies itself to be an e-sports title, wants to stay popular and active during several years, then it is not just up to the game.

Loads of fansites have been made, ours among one of them, to support this game and the communities that play the game.

An important part of that is match coverage, and QLTV focuses on just that!

11:00 PM EST, May 27, 2009 – QuakeLive.TV™, the new shoutcasting and e-sports destination for the North American Quake Live™ competitive community, is set to officially launch at 9:30PM EST, on May 31, 2009.

You can read or download the official press release from their website.

For now, it's all fun and games for our North-American friends, but they are working very hard on rolling out a EU shoutcasting branch named QLTV-EU in the near future.

Map 2 of 6: Siberia

Posted by Lashknife

In case you're not online everyday to play Quake Live, and hardly get the time to do anything except checking your email, at least the one mail it should contain is the newest gossip about Quake Live, and for now that's Siberia, the 2nd map of "6 new maps in 6 weeks".

"Siberia" is a regular ctf map without the runes and is suitable for 6 to 12 players. It is from the same hand as the creator of Ironworks, which sounds promising!

You can find more information and a few screenshots of the maps here.

Quake Live April Fools joke

Posted by Lashknife

Quake Live April's Fool 2009April's Fool is all about playing a prank on somebody or do something funny. idsoftware did exactly that and created a special splash screen visible only when visiting quakelive.com for the first time during an active browser session.

For those who missed it - hiding in the basement trying to dodge lame jokes huh? - here's the fun and nicely crafted splash page.

Too bad tho, always wanted to ride an Orbb! ;)

idsoftware at the Game Developers Conference 2009

Posted by Lashknife

Well, it seems Quake Live is more popular than idsoftware expected it to be, as Todd Hollenshead was so impressed by the sheer number of signups for the closed and open beta of Quake Live that they are even thinking about porting other games like QuakeWars and ET to the browser platform.

Todd Hollenshead
The participation in the open beta is 50 percent higher than what we expected. The beta was perhaps too successful, at least in the raw numbers, with a massive queue forming when the beta kicked off.

Hollenshead also confirmed once more that upcoming Chrome, Linux and Mac support is a high priority, right after eliminating the last couple of bugs.

Good news for the community as this will certainly lead to more players!
