So i am going to abort trying to fix this logitech mx518 1600dpi mouse, and go with something new.
Price range is 30-50 $
What do i get?
Anything but a logi, i have experienced way to many glitches with QL with his mouse. From lock ups to sens changes...

I used to have a logi G5 and switched to a razer deathadder and my aim increased by 5% in Quake Live (not even lying!).

well, in my opinion you should go for either Logitech G5 or Razer Deathadder.
The difference between those two are personal taste, I think. I have played with logitech all my life so the choice for me was abvious...
Imo deathadder > G5 by far. Not only in the official reviews, but also after my personal test of both. Sure, personal taste, etc... but I really suggest you go deathadder 
I love my Microsoft SideWinder lasermouse. With adjustable weight, adjustable DPI on-the-fly (400, 800, 2000 DPI) it works very well and sits really good in my hand.
I would always recommend to go to a electronics shop and try some.
yesterday i order deathadder. Others say comparing to g5 deathadder takes the cake. i also watched a review on youtube and i am quite impresed by the customablility of the this mouse.
... but ill tell u how it goes next week when ill get it.

I chose a lachesis above a deathadder simply because I like symmetrical mice and the deathadder is righthanded (iirc)
Sort of like the MS Razer HABU that I had but of which the laser broke, just 1 month out of warranty. Awesome mouse but they didn't have it in shop at the time i bought the lachesis. Hey, what can I say, a man needs a mouse! 
well i got my deathadder today... i must say its so good its freeking me out ... i played a nice balanced ctf and did 60% rail with 26 RG kills... before i had above 50% very rarly on a match.
... so yes, definitly a thumbs up from me.
These positive reviews about razer deathadder really make it tempting to buy one myself

well, i have a copperhead which i didnt mind then my friend bought the g9 which i thought was the greatest mouse ever until i bought the steelseries ikari mouse this thing is incredible it truly is. You can customize the sensitivity to 0001 so if you wanted 2991 cpi instead of 2990 you can the shape is like an upgraded g5 i may be biased but i highly recommend checking this mouse out for only 15 dollars more.
In the meantime I have bought a RAZER Deathadder and I must say ... DAMN IT'S A NICE MOUSE!
After years and years of gaming with a logitech mouse, I can easily say my RAZER Deathadder beats the Logitech G5.
