Recruitment Center

The Quake Live Recruitement Center is a database of player and clan information, specific to find on one hand clans are recruiting, what type of player they are looking for and on the other hand players who are putting themselves for hire for specific gametypes and positions.
It is an initiative to unify the lonely ;)

Join us also in #teams.ql to promote your clan or look for players!

Lk says: Offline for a while, need to rewrite stuff, fix bugs and expand search filter capabilities!
I still think this thing has potential but not in its current form! Check back later!

  1. IE has a bug on preloading clan/playerlists, this might also cause CSS to break (visibility of parts and all)

I will remove this comment when i have fixed it.

Some other things may come in the future (more detail on hovering results, … things that are unfinished)
We want to get this thing going to help out the lonely!

Please report any bugs you can find! Thanks

Also, the mails might come in junk, i have yet to set an originating address, now it’s “www-data”

  2. nice one bruvva! :)

    Nicely done, very good idea.

  3. Very nicely done :)

Curious to see what the interest by the community would be for a tool like this.

  4. I’ve tried to put myself up for hire, but i cant get the access code. ive requested to receive the access code but when i press create/update it doesnt do anything

  5. you dont happen to use IE? there’s a bug that might have effect on other stuff too

if not, it should say at least one message, can you see if your console gives any errors? (lemme know what browser)

  6. If you can link it to the WordPress DB, the adding and editing players could be simplified. If 50 players sign up, then that would be a huuuuge dropdown :)

  7. Yeah that’s what I’m trying to find time for… to study how the wordpress system is built so I can better integrate whatever we want to script.

Time is not on my side however…

  8. [16:29] < [aAa]Appleseed> im not here for long
    [16:29] < [aAa]Appleseed> but i wanted to point out a few things
    [16:29] < [aAa]Appleseed> when i’m looking for a team, field 3 is the “origin”
[16:29] < [aAa]Appleseed> origin of whom? me? them? sould use “team origin” instead
    [16:30] yea
    [16:30]
    I’ll pass it through :)
[16:30] < [aAa]Appleseed> and in the list, i cant find “europe”
    [16:30]
    its european union
    [16:30] < [aAa]Appleseed> ah found it…
[16:31] < [aAa]Appleseed> then i tried to put myself for hire
[16:31] < [aAa]Appleseed> and then theres a box “for hire”… i dont see the point of having it since im here to search for a team
[16:32] < [aAa]Appleseed> and ive no idea what a request code is: im asked for one, but i havent been told what it is
[16:34] < [aAa]Appleseed> and i dont get the confirmation email, when using hotmail, but that may be thanks to microsoft
[16:34] < [aAa]Appleseed> thats all ive seen when using it for 5 minutes
[16:35] < [aAa]Appleseed> its a great idea though, hope you’ll manage to make it big

  9. yes I lack some explanation it seems.

    1?
The access code is only needed if you want to update or remove yourself, else everybody can change your details.

It’s either a select list + access code to verify it’s you… or a full registration as a user, which Infy pointed out but I havent looked into accessing wp-db stuff yet.

Furthermore it is sent by email, which now for some unexplained reason sometimes it goes straight into junk. First code you get is a validation code to make sure you’re not faking and abusing the system. Upon validation, the true access code is again sent to you, and again this idd sometimes vanishes… stupid :’(
This could be handled better too and I plan on removing this “methods of checking”

    2?
For hire… it’s there because suppose you found a clan, you can uncheck this without having to remove your profile. What if 2 months later, your clan folds or you leave and want to be for hire again?
This field tells the filters if you need to be part of it or not. People who are not for hire do not show up in the list.

tbh, I already was thinking I should recreate this thing with integrated wp-user access so I can avoid all the authentication and hiding stuff. But as it is now, we also don’t have some sort of profile pages which could also indicate things.

    3?
EU, as of now, EU acts like 1 country, not a zone. I’ve already written some code on my localhost to make sure that if you filter clans from Europe, you will see everybody in the geographical zone of Europe, not only clans that are “EU”

BUT, it is already launched, and yes it can use improvement and the good part of this is, people can start using it, while i’m working on an improved version to make it better.

    4?
Appleseed for hire? I should contact him ;)

    ps: thanks for informing me!

  10. Just add another table to the DB, then pull the username and password from that same DB and put them in queries :p
You don’t need to fiddle with or change the other tables in the DB.

  11. OR add more fields to the users table.. (this could break compatibility with later versions though) You could best add another table, then if wordpress is updated and the tables are slightly altered, you could pull the table from the old DB and insert it in the new DB. Perhaps you could add 1 extra field to the user table with the recruitementcenter_id or something.

    table you need is wp_users

  12. Enable editing of comments for gods sake:
I was just looking at WordPress, I can do some of the PHP for you if you’d just ask me :\
No control panel? I can make a basic panel (and expand on it).
Heck, I think I can make an edit button for these comments as well, perhaps a “preview your post” button for the forum as I mentoined before wouldn’t hurt as well…

  13. the point is not to write custom code to inject into wordpress. The point is to use wordpress system hooks and built-in functions that can do the same with 1 command.

It’s not hard, it takes time, which I lack at the moment…

And I don’t need to alter the existing wp_users, I just create another table with one extra column that refers to the wp_users id column.

What you say here in 3 topics is all valid and good points and some of them I’ve already taken notice of myself,

ps: edit button, good idea, dunno if that exists for regular users. I’ll look into it. I know I see a “edit” link next to the time of post (but as admin I see it for every post/comment)

  14. Hm.. can?t see player details or send them an E-Mail, either via Mozilla Firefox 3.0.10 or Microsoft Internet Explorer 8.0.6001.18702 on MS Windows XP SP3 :/

  15. It should alert pending, exactly for the reason of my spam issue with “from” which i need to sort out.

  16. I like the idea
The old ClanBase “looking for clan” option always smelled. I think they took it down a year or so ago.

It’s good that a clan can search for players, but maybe also enable it for a clan to have a “wanted” add?

I’d like to be able to specify that we only want Dutch-speaking players and we demand at least a quality of “2″ (on scale 1-5, with 1 being higest) where our ambitions are to join the div1 ranks in TDM and CTF (and possibly CA).

    Something like that.

  17. hmhmhm.. too bad there is no edit button :D
I now just found the 2nd tab. :)

  18. zzz.. I really need a EDIT button :)

in IE8 I’m getting “error on page” javascript msg and seems it doesnt work to Create/Update the clan

  19. IE is broken, something to do with filling up select boxes using ajax which fails miserably :(

  20. Still cannot use the recruitment center :/ Same issue as before. I’ll use the forums here instead to recruit someone :)

  21. taken down, need to fix things!

    asap (like anything :p )

  22. Looking for Clan Members – Check out this awesome site too – great quake sound tracks!
