Quake Live goes Twitter? Holysh1t.net Follows!

February 9, 2009 2 comments Article

quake-live-twitter1Some of you may have read in the most recent news update that Quake Live is now using Twitter.

Wait… what? You can’t say that! You’re breaking the beta Non Disclosure Agreement!

Well, not exactly. Twitter is a public feed. Just do a little search in Google for “Quake Live Twitter” and you’ll see that these updates are not private and they are there for everyone to follow.

Ok then. But what exactly is this “Twitter” You’re talking about?

Twitter has been the internet hype of 2008. The Twitter system is similar to “Facebook updates”, and to be honest, that’s really the only thing twitter does: keep people updated about random activities in a short sentence of maximum 180 characters.

Twitter.com: Twitter is a free social messaging utility for staying connected in real-time.

Most people use Twitter to share information about everyday events with friends and family, such as: “I’m picking up the kids from school” or “I’m going out for a walk”.

Yet the possibilities are endless. Anyone can use Twitter to keep everybody updated about just about anything.

The Quake Live crew, for example, uses Twitter to keep us updated about things such as:

Quakelive: We are testing new code on the backend, you may experience some disruptions in the next few hours. (2 days ago)
Quakelive:
SyncError tells TTimo to degauss the OpenFire. (We’re currently experiencing a few issues following the update, please stand by.) (2 days ago)

These seemingly unimportant events that don’t seem noteworthy at first glance have inspired millions of people on the internet to do the same.

All it requires to receive tweets from people (yeah, that’s what they call these little messages), is for you to create a Twitter account and Follow the people you’re interested in.

Some Quakelive related people or instances active on Twitter are:

  • Holysh1t.net
  • Quakelive
  • djWheat (Quake shout cast guru)
  • Stermy
  • … you?

If you follow us on Twitter you’ll receive a Tweet each time we post something new.

Leave a link to your Twitter account in the comments to find more followers also playing Quakelive!
