Quake Live Public beta announced!

February 20, 2009 6 comments Article

quake-live-public-betaToday, February 20th 2009, exactly one year since the closed beta for Quake Live was launched, id software announces they will soon start the open beta fase of the Quake Live project.

The exact date planned for the public release is 24th of February, which from today is in exactly 4 days.

Open beta consequences

Open beta means anyone will be able to sign up for the game without having to ask around for an invite from existing beta testers.

Most likely this will also mean we can more openly discuss aspects of the game which were previously forbidden by the beta Non Disclosure Agreement, yet this is not entirely certain and should still be confirmed.

Another consequence of the open beta will be a reset of all player statistics and the permanent deletion of inactive accounts.

Quake Live splash page with wallpapers!

For this special occasion the Quake Live crew put up a special countdown timer on the Quake Live homepage, together with a kickass wallpaper available for download.

I don’t know about all you guys, but this is definitely getting me excited!

tbh it’s too early, not even 1 single competition related feature has been implemented… :'( Ok, open beta remains beta status, but still……

The awesomeness is that there is no more NDA so we can really pump up the site and that there is no more hassle with invites 🙂 (our most popular thread by far :p )

great news! I hope they will add competition features fast, though.
We can’t keep the game alive if competition can’t start shortly.

Awards, more servers and a couple game fixes are going to be implemented when the servers are brought back up, so the 36 hours downtime does have some extra benefits!
