QuakeCon CTF open finals finished

August 5, 2012 No comments Article

The QL CTF Open have just been played and the victor of this year has been known. It was a fierce fight between ROOF and DFM. DFM worked his way back up the loser bracket into the finals where they had to face off against the team of Rapha. The finals consisted of a Bo5 format, with ROOF getting 1 point ahead due to the fact they went through the winner bracket undefeated.

First map played was Ironworks, where both teams decided to start without a lot of pressure but rather focus on the first powerup. Soon enough the first regen came up but both teams were unable to utilize it’s power to any good. It wasn’t until halfway through the map that ROOF made their first cap, even though the action had been fast paced. Rapha’s defence was tough to get through and he pushed forward on the right moments to secure the captures. It was DFM who didn’t quite manage to organise or communicate well which resulted in a 6-1 win for ROOF, who are now 2-0 ahead in the Bo5 due to their 1 bonus point.

The second map played was Japanese Castles and this time DFM played a much better game. Early in the game DFM appeared to have forgot all about their powerup which resulted in a large gap between the PU’s spawntime. Disregarding this, the DFM team was able to apply a decent amount of pressure. It was however ROOF who got the first and second cap, but DFM managed to pull the score back to 3-2 eventually. Again, the attacks from ROOF seemed much better coordinated than DFM’s and we even saw rapha on the attack once in a while. Rapha said in an earlier interview that his team didn’t switch positions cross maps, so it was surprising and exciting to see rapha on the attack. I’m pretty sure the Japanese Castles’ spawn system might have something to do with that. The finale score came down to 4-3, which results in a 3-0 win in the Bo5 for ROOF.

Congratulations to the QuakeCon Quake Live Capture The Flag Open winners of 2012: ROOF!
